Abstract

|
Chitin is one of the critical components which are mainly existing in crustacean shells (crab, shrimp and krill), insect exoskeleton and even fungi cell wall. Chitosan obtained after deacetylation of chitin has been characterized and tested for biomedical application with various purposes. The application of chitosan for biomedical scopes is deeply related to its physicochemical and biological properties. Even though chitosan has suitable properties for biomedical application and prominent properties, it is needed to standardize the source and composition of chitosan, the procedure of manufacture and the application for approval from WHO or FDA.
